Wait until 31st Jan when 40% of mobile phones will not have Wattsapp because of upgrading. Simply a money making scheme for Samsung etc etc

The decision is the fault of Facebook who own Whatsapp

WhatsApp will no longer work on a number of older smartphones in the new year.

Facebook, which owns the app, announced earlier this year that the service will be pulled from Windows Phone as it halts development on some older handsets.

The latest cut-off, which comes into force tomorrow, will be followed by dated versions of Android and iOS in a couple of months.

The popular messaging app will be axed from Android versions 2.3 (also known as Gingerbread) and older, as well as iOS 8 and older, on February 1.

To check which version of Android your device has, simply go to Settings and scroll down until you see About Phone. Click this, and then scroll down to Android Version. The small number under the heading denotes which version of Android is on the smartphone.

For iPhone users, go into Settings and navigate to General. Select About and then look for Version. The number next to this will indicate which type of iOS you are using.

In 2018, WhatsApp stopped supporting earlier Windows Phones, as well as BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10.
