EU BORDER LOCKDOWN EXTENDED TO 28th FEB
A new released BOE (Official State Gazette) INT/62/2021 amplifies the EU border closure to non-EU countries for another month until the end of February. On or before that date the restrictions will be lifted or extended again.
CHANGES
The 4 changes are based on the EU meeting on the 28th Jan and the recommendations of the Official Journal of the European Union (DOUE).
1) TRAVEL BAN EXTENSION
The ban of all non-essential travel from non-EU countries to midnight 28th Feb 2020.
2) SAFE COUNTRY LIST REDUCED TO SEVEN
Japan has also been added to the High Risk country list and is banned from non-essential travel.
The 7 countries that remain on the Safe List are:
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Rwanda
- Singapore
- South Korea
- Thailand
- China
3) GIBRALTA BORDER CLOSED
Despite Gibralta joining the Schengen area only legal residents of the territory of Gibraltar, whatever their nationality can enter Spain provided that there is reciprocity of entry into Gibraltar of residents of the Campo de Gibraltar region.
4) EXCEPTIONS REDUCED
There are exceptions to this ban if people need to travel for essential reasons, such as frontline workers however only people who have documented reasons of force majeure or need, or whose entry is allowed for humanitarian reasons will be accepted under this rule.
WHEN CAN I TRAVEL?
If you are not a Spanish resident, it will not be possible to travel into the EU before March and this will probably be extended.
UK HOMEOWNERS & RENTERS STUCK
UK nationals who are outside can prove they lived in Spain last year can STILL apply for residency digitally and are recommend to start the process as soon as possible.
Applying for this procedure will not permit travel until:
- The TIE card is obtained
- The Spanish Government accepts proof of residency application as proof
VISAS
It is possible to enter the EU area and Spain if you obtain a Visa such as the Non Lucrative Visa from the Spanish consulate in your home country.
