"It is inconceivable that the covid-19 is used as a pretext," denounces Ciudadanos.

Thousands of families and companies still do not receive aid from the European Union for the damages of two of the worst storms in the last decade: DANA in Vega Baja and Gloria. The delay in processing by the Government of Spain and the coronavirus health crisis have delayed the approval of these funds, which those affected continue to wait for in May. One of the main demands in Brussels for MEPs from all parliamentary groups is the need to change the legislation since the procedures are delayed excessively despite being emergency funds. However, now it has been Ciudadanos who has raised the alarm and has criticized the Central Government for the "poor processing of aid."

Regarding DANA, those of Inés Arrimadas denounce that the Executive has delayed the processing and has been slow to present the required information. Aware that the process still has a long way to go, the Alicante deputy Marta Martín assured yesterday that the aid for the floods of the cold drop will not arrive in the short term because the Government has delayed to the limit the request for aid: «That is why they come so late. And with Gloria they have not processed the file on time and we will also have to wait ». The European Commission accepted the Spanish request and on April 30 transferred to the European Parliament and the Council the mobilization of a sum of 56.7 million to proceed with the approval for those affected by the storm of last September that especially hit the region of the Vega Baja.

"From the first moment we have been asking that they be speeded up, but the government has drained the package," criticized Martín. Also the Alicante MEP of the PSOEInmaculada Rodríguez-Piñero has repeatedly asked the European institutions to make available to the affected areas all the necessary resources so that they can act efficiently and quickly in their reconstruction "and that the citizens feel protected by their institutions ». Socialist sources in the European Union yesterday assured this media that DANA aid is advanced and that once approved by the European Council scheduled for next week, the process will be transferred to Parliament to go through the budget committee and, subsequently , for the plenary session that will surely be held in June. If dates are met, it would be nine months after the catastrophe.

Regarding the stormy Gloria of last January, the complete file of the Government of Spain should have been presented before April 11, but by not doing so, the European Commission has extended the period until June 24. This was denounced by the MEP for Citizens Susana Solís, who added that "the Government has been unable to resolve the necessary procedure in a timely manner and therefore those affected still do not receive a single euro." The storm Gloria broke records for waves, heavy rainfall, heavy snowfall and hail that even caused human losses. Faced with this serious situation, political groups asked the European Commission to activate all existing mechanisms to help repair damages and losses, including the Solidarity Fund. Spanish MEPs of all colors have called on many occasions to urgently speed up the funds destined to alleviate the ravages of the storm and to shorten the deadlines for those affected by natural disasters to receive community aid. Now it is the Government of Spain that has delayed the deadlines for the submission of documentation due to the health crisis. Regarding this situation, the deputy of Citizens in Congress Marta Martín has branded as "inconceivable that the covid-19 be used as a pretext to delay the arrival of aid" denouncing that until this file is resolved, funds cannot be mobilized .

Neither in the County Council

On the other hand, aid to DANA continues to generate controversy in all institutions. The PSPV of the Diputación raised the tone to denounce that "the passage of time has shown that it was a huge mistake that the government team of the Diputación did not include in their budgets the six million euros to mitigate the effects of DANA", which has made it impossible until now to pay the aid. The socialist deputy Joaquín Hernández, strongly criticized the PP and Cs.
