Unfortunately Michael, for me moving is not really an option , other than relocating to Germany.
Given that Germany is on on the brink of a major recession , which will be fuelled by Bexit , I'm probably better staying put .
At least the cheap living , quality of life and sunshine , does compensate for the turmoil going on at present .
I'm still trying to get my head around why all this chaos...for a virus that has a 98.8% recovery rate .

My plan B simple take early retirement and travel to see the few bits of Spain We have not seen in the 15 years we have lived here.Restriction permitting
The thought of trying to make ends meet from running the bar this year simply does not appeal .So we have taken this decision I wonder how many more will do the same

I guess many more will do the same , Orangepicker.
On my side of Torrevieja, I can think of at least 3 bars that will not reopen .
2 of them only changed hands in the past 6 months .
They are small bars , and can't possibly make ends meet on 50% of their potential trade .
It's very sad, and my sympathies lie very much with them.
When I was in business here ( I'm now retired), I managed to survive the 2008/9 recession ....just !
But the implications and effects of this lockdown, will sadly be the "kiss of death" for many .
Benidorm has a better chance of survival after this is all over - but even that may take some time to fully recover.

This all points to the same conclusion that we should support our local businesses and drink more

A little bit less than that Tosh
3.4% Mortality Rate estimate by the World Health Organization (WHO) as of March 3
In his opening remarks at the March 3 media briefing on Covid-19, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated:
“Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died. By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those infected.” [13]

Yes Tosh we too survived the 09 recession just but 10 years on I really dont fancy that battle again the rules have definitely changed .
Having done 15 sometimes very difficult years employed at its peak 18 staff all legal I might add I think my wife and I have had the best of it for the near future Those bars that are still operating this time next year will have done so with an awful lot of good work and determination and I take my hat off to them

To be fair to Michael , JamesB.
He did start his post saying , it was only speculation.
None of us know what lies ahead, unfortunately.

It seems to me there are 2 options for most people; do nothing and live as before and take the risk that you may catch it and if you do that you may die from it or you take whatever precautions you can to protect yourself from catching it.
People spout on about statistics but I always reverse the thought that to win the lottery you must first enter it. So to "win" getting the virus and dying from it you must first expose yourself to it and then wait for your 'lucky'number to come up.
At the end of the day this is only a few months out of your life and eventually things will bounce back. Economies will recover and they will find a vaccine which some wont want to take because it will control their minds and make them subservient to government control; right oh!
So at that point people will feel comfortable there is a vaccine and life will go back to "normal" However, how many get the flu vaccine each year and how many take the risk? I have had flue, yes real flu, twice in the last 18 years and i still dont get a flu vaccine each year! Who will, eventually, forget the covid-19 vaccination and not bother in 5 years?
So take a chance, dont take a chance its your choice. Move to another country or location or whatever but dont run away because the grass might be greener as those that think that are losers and will be losers wherever they go.
Look positive, adapt and find pleasure in whatever you can and stop whining about governments and policies and the state of the TV selections available.
We are all being controlled but its not governments its the media as everyone seems happy to follow what they say.
Good morning by the way

And media ( most of it ) is controlled by governments, Admin.
I will never get injected with the Covid-19 vaccine .
Especially , as the vaccine company's are being run by Bill and Melissa Gates foundation.
Bill is an advocate of world depopulation.
He has admitted that.
