I remember several of these social get togethers, Michael.
When things return to normal, it would be nice to these activities ressurected.
And , as you tightly say , it would give the restaurants a much needed boost .

Returning to your original question about Dinner parties in my experience as a former host of such events is that the Brits want it all for nothing.
We did have a singles group that came to us for a few years but eventually drifted away because they didn't want to pay any more than 8 euros for 3 courses plus drinks.
A handful did continue because quality out played costs but they were the minority.
Having said all that it is still a good idea
