Just thought I'd mention - I'm now nearing retirement and apparently the scammers view my age group as easy fodder.

Seems the older we get the more trusting we become. Just 2 days ago came across a very intelligent man who was scammed re the purchase of a campervan - the one thing, indeed the only thing that stood out was the price - it was very cheap.

This scam being reported by the BBC has 3 classic elements.

First the returns - 100% in 100 days.
Second the scammer - he uses religion as his guise of being trustworthy.
And third - perhaps the worst - the involvement of a 'trustworthy' bank.

The lesson for me is that as i get older I will trust more in family, after all if i give the pot away they get nothing :D

When you open a bank account you will find that the bank will have yo jump thru various hoops which are explained as 'anti money laundering' regullations.

Therefore if were to scam a number of people in a relatively short time frame, take their money and scarper you would look to the bank into which you deposited the money for some detail on who the scammer is.

If the bank answers ... well it was actually fake details - here, we will refund you half the money.

The campervan was too cheap to be true, the medium was social media and the payment was into what seemed a legit bank account.

The BBC story shows that banks find it hard to refuse business despite all the regulations.
