Trump is living in cloud-cuckoo land if he thinks this action is going to prevent trouble.

Iran has been provoking the west and particularly the USA for some years now and as Obama had backed away from action they believed the USA would not retaliate--Iran thought it was the right time to consolidate themselves as the key power in the middle east .

I don't think Trump is under any illusions that this will bring peace to the region but it sure will make Iran think twice before they embark on any future actions against the USA

Nobody is expecting peace in the region any time soon---the pundits are blowing this up as a seminal moment in middle east politics ---but that is only to make themselves more important than they are

The nuclear deal agreed by Obama with Iran was an extremely weak one and did not guarantee that Iran would not have a nuclear weapon and hence had to be scrapped and renegotiated--If Iran was not deceptive --they would have agreed to Trump's requirements

The killing was legal under International law as Soleimani was planning imminent atrocities against Americans

We now know his trip likely had a secret component: coordinating an intensifying campaign of rocket strikes to maim and kill some of the 5,000 American troops based there.

One of the leaders also killed in the drone strike was the commander of the militia that Soleimani had ordered to coordinate the rocket attacks on Americans at Iraqi bases.

People who believe in appeasement are making the same mistake made by others before the second world war

Iran's raison d'etre is to annihilate Israel--they openly broadcast it--so we should be supportive of whoever challenges such hatred and violence and Trump should be lauded for ensuring that Iran never has a nuclear weapon

Trump is not a foolish as the MSM portray him--he is braver than all the recent American president's in making difficult decisions rather than kicking the can down the road.

You may not be able to see the value of his actions now because of all the baggage that surrounds him but one day he will be viewed in a very positive light

We have him to thank for world peace---

I tend to agree with You, Athos.
